The name, and the saint behind it.

Fiscus

Before there was a firm, there was a word.

Fiscus, in Latin, meant a woven basket — the basket that held the gold of the Roman treasury. Fiscālis: of, or belonging to, the state treasury. From that root come the words we still use today: fiscal, fisc, confiscate. Money that moves under the authority of the state. Money that touches every life but belongs to none of them.

We chose the name because it is honest about what we do.

We work inside the fiscus — the treasury, the tax code, the reporting machinery — on behalf of the people who have to live with its weight.

Matthew

Matthew sat at the customs post at Capernaum, collecting taxes for Rome. He was a publican — one of the most despised men in his town, mentioned in the Gospels alongside sinners. He worked for the occupier, inside the fiscus, against his own people.

Then Jesus walked past and said, “Follow me.” Matthew stood up, walked away from the tax table, and became the first Evangelist.

Today he is the patron saint of accountants, bankers, bookkeepers, tax collectors, financial officers, money managers, and civil servants — the complete list of every profession this firm serves.

He is the patron of the people who work with money, and of the people who need someone in their corner when the system comes calling.

That is the standard we hold ourselves to.

We take this seriously. Our clients can tell.

What the crest means.

Fiscal Saints crest — winged Matthew with halo, ledger, and heraldic shield

The Halo

The elliptical halo above the figure identifies Matthew as a saint — the chosen one. It signals divine authority and moral standing. In financial terms: we operate above reproach.

The Wings

The winged man is Matthew’s ancient symbol — one of the four creatures of Revelation, assigned to the first Evangelist. Wings denote swiftness, protection, and elevation above earthly constraints.

The Ledger

Matthew holds not just his Gospel, but a ledger — two columns, like the pages of any book of accounts. The book he carries is both sacred text and financial record. Truth recorded. Numbers that matter.

The Shield

The heraldic crest surrounding the figure signals protection and authority. Your clients need a shield — someone standing between them and the machinery of the fiscal system. That is this firm.

If you answer yes to two or more, let’s talk.

We keep discovery simple. These are the questions that tell us — and you — whether there’s a real fit worth exploring.

Who handles your taxes right now — and are you actually happy with them?

Are your books up to date, or are you behind on bookkeeping?

Have you filed all your returns on time? Any IRS notices?

Are you paying more in taxes than you think you should?

Do you need financial statements for a bank, investor, or board?

Are you thinking about selling, acquiring, or restructuring the business?

Are you operating in multiple states and unsure about tax nexus?

Do you have a CPA who actually calls you back when you need them?

Straight answers. No runaround.

“Who will actually handle my engagement?”

+
A dedicated Fiscal Saints team member leads your engagement from start to finish. No hand-offs to junior associates. One person who owns the quality, timeline, and outcome — and answers the phone when you call.

“How is Fiscal Saints different from my current CPA?”

+
We’re consultative by nature — we look at your full picture, not just the numbers. And we can often save you a decent amount compared to what you’re paying now. Share what you’re paying and we’ll tell you honestly.

“What industries do you specialize in?”

+
OTC companies, churches, nonprofits, small businesses, CPA firms, audit readiness, family offices, real estate, construction, healthcare, golf courses, oil & gas, and M&A targets. If yours isn’t listed, reach out anyway.

“Do you prepare individual tax returns?”

+
We are a business-focused firm. We handle complex individual returns when they’re tied to a business engagement — owners with K-1s, Schedule C income, multi-entity structures, or trust and family-office setups. We don’t take on standalone personal 1040s. If that’s all you need, we’re glad to refer you to a trusted partner.

“How much does it cost?”

+
We are a fixed-price firm, scoped to your needs. No surprise invoices, no vague retainers, no nickel-and-diming. You’ll know exactly what you’re paying before you sign anything.

“Can you handle OTC / OTCID compliance?”

+
Yes. Full OTCID compliance — Quarterly OTCID Disclosures, annual reports, management certifications, and GAAP-compliant financial statement preparation. We prepare everything for submission to OTC DNS by your officers and manage your compliance calendar so nothing falls through the cracks.

“Do you offer audit readiness services?”

+
Yes. We’re not a PCAOB-registered audit firm, but we do everything needed to get you audit-ready — organizing books, reconciling accounts, preparing documentation, and working directly with your auditor.

“I’m a CPA firm — can you be our overflow partner?”

+
Absolutely. We partner with firms needing surge capacity — tax-season overflow, bookkeeping backlogs, compliance support. White-label or co-branded. Call us and we’ll figure it out.

“How quickly can you get started?”

+
For straightforward bookkeeping or tax prep, typically within a week. For complex engagements like OTC compliance or financial modeling, we scope first and give you a clear timeline.

“Where is Fiscal Saints based?”

+
Fiscal Saints is a Texas-based firm headquartered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex. All client data is processed on US-based infrastructure with full data sovereignty.

“What if I only need help during tax season?”

+
That’s fine. We’re happy with seasonal work. Many clients start with a single project and expand from there when they’re ready.
